  • Free School Meals - information for parents who COULD be eligible

Fri 24 Jul 2020 Mr. Simpson

Given the current economic position and number of increased redundancies, some children may become eligible for Free School Meals after schools have closed for the summer.  The message below advises what a parent should do if they become eligible for FSMs during the summer holiday period.

If circumstances change and you think your child is eligible for free school meals after the schools close for the summer break, you need to apply for FSMs using the link below:

Click link here for Liverpool City Council FSM page

If you are eligible, you will receive a notification confirming this.  During school's summer holiday period, you will be sent vouchers by Liverpool City Council on a fortnightly basis.

  • Details for September

Fri 17 Jul 2020 Mr. Simpson

    Good afternoon parents,

It's the end of a very unusual school year and there is so much to look back on with pride, not least the way our school community have come together during the unfortunate school lockdown period.  I hope, like me, you feel that the school community have come closer together, forming friendships and building trust through a range of communications and support mechanisms.

I would just like to inform you of a few things regarding September.  I am deliberately not publishing a very detailed plan of what September will definitely look like, because as we have seen, things change rapidly at the moment.

The new school year begins for Y1-6 children on Wednesday 2nd September.  Reception and Nursery children start on Monday 7th September.

There will still be a number of Coronavirus-related restrictions and changes enforced, the detail of which will be published towards the end of August.

    Drop-off and Pick-up

As we have started to implement in recent weeks, there will be 4 separate entrances to the school site in September, with different year groups entering and exiting through different gates.  In addition, where two year groups are using the same gate, there will be a staggered start and finish time to the day to avoid congestion and contact in and around the school site.

    Uniform:

In recent weeks, children have not been expected to wear school uniform. However, from the start of next term in September, full uniform will once again be expected. Please ensure footwear is appropriate (fully black shoes only, no boots or sandals etc.)

    Breakfast Club and Twilight Club:

The current government guidance encourages both before and after school provision where possible.  It is our intention to run both breakfast and Twilight clubs in September, starting on Monday 7th September (not on the first three days back, 2nd-4th September).  We will publish more details as guidance emerges as there will be certain Covid-related restrictions to adhere to.

Further updates will be posted when necessary during the summer.  I will send text notifications out as and when anything is updated.

Let me just take this opportunity to thank all of the parents and carers of our children, who have given our staff such fantastic support throughout this difficult year.  I am personally so proud to be the head teacher of this wonderful school - it is a huge privilege to be part of our school community.

I wish you and your family a happy and healthy summer holiday.

    Kind regards,

    Rob Simpson

  • Online Safety alert: Blue Whale Challenge

Mon 13 Jul 2020 Mr. Simpson

Some of the children in school have been talking about the 'Blue Whale Challenge' or 'Blue Whale Story'.  Although this is not a new phenomenon, it is important that parents discuss their child's thoughts on it, including what they have heard from others, as the alleged content is disturbing and upsetting to many.

Please follow the link below to an article from 'Safer Internet.org':

If you are worried about this with your child, please come into school to discuss with us.

  • Y6 'Virtual' Children's University Graduation and Awards assembly

Sun 12 Jul 2020 Mr. Simpson

I am delighted to inform you that we have been able to arrange a special 'virtual' awards assembly for the Year 6 children, with parents invited!

During the last week, Year 6 would normally enjoy leavers assemblies, performances and events, with parents very much part of it.  We are determined to do everything we can, given the difficult circumstances this year, to give this wonderful group of children a send-off that is memorable.

On Thursday morning at 9:30am, we will invite all parents of Y6 children to join us on Zoom, as well as the invite of a few special guests, including Charlie Coyne (Chair of Governors) who will be joining from his home.  I will post the link on the Y6 class page and parents should be able to join us LIVE in the main hall, able to see their children, and with the children able to see their parents!

    We will celebrate the following:

    • Children's University Graduation
    • Attendance Awards
    • Special Achievements
    • Debate Academy
    • Children's photo montage

I am anticipating the assembly will be around 45 minutes, but realise that some parents may need to join or leave at various points due to work commitments, which is fine.

This is the first time we have done something like this and we've already started rehearsing with the children and technology in the hall.  It should be really good!

If you have never used Zoom, please don't worry, it's very simple.  You can access Zoom on your phone, a tablet, laptop or PC - it's just a case of clicking on the link I'll send and sitting back to watch.

I hope you are able to join us as we celebrate our brilliant Year 6 and their many, many achievements.

    Kind regards,

  • Teachers for next year 2020-21

Fri 03 Jul 2020 Mr. Simpson

    Update: 3.7.20

    Good afternoon parents,

As we reach the weekend, we now have 2 full weeks of the summer term left before the summer holidays.  For those families or children who have unfortunately been stuck back at home since the end of March, I realise that the rhythm of school terms has been greatly affected, but we are at the time of year where we are planning for September.

Next year, teachers are staying in the same classrooms and year groups as this year; therefore the structure below is familiar to the children and parents, providing some much-needed 'normality' and consistency while we continue to navigate through the challenges of Covid-19 and attempt to 'catch-up' with schooling lost this year.

    Miss Rita (teaching assistant)

    + additional 1:1 support

    SENCO: Miss Gold

P.E. / Gymnastics: Mr. Shard + LSSP coaching

    Computing Mr. Goodhall-Walker

We will be sending out additional information from the teachers and plans for next year to help the children to feel comfortable and positive about September during the summer holiday.  This will be sent out with the children's end of year reports before the end of term.

    • Year 4 - we are delighted to welcome Mrs. Singhania onto the school staff this year, following Mrs. Size's request to reduce her working week by one day to spend a bit more time with her young family.  Mrs. Singhania has already taught the current Year 3 on many occasions and knows the children well.  It is fantastic to have this opportunity to welcome onto the staff such a strong teacher who has already committed so much to our school and staff team, first as a student teacher in Year 6, then last year as a supply teacher, including 1:1 work with some vulnerable children.  Mrs. Size and Mrs. Singhania have already met and started planning for next year, forming an exciting team for the children.

Wishing everybody a lovely weekend.  We look forward to welcoming Year 1 back next week and seeing what children still at home are achieving through Twitter or e-mails to school.

    Yours sincerely,

    Rob Simpson
