  • School is OPEN on Monday 13th January

Sun 12 Jan 2025 Mr. Simpson

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Following site inspection and risk assessment this afternoon, I am pleased to say that school will be OPEN tomorrow for all pupils.

The site is safe for fire evacuation and at its entrance points.  The pavement directly outside the gate is free of ice.  There is enough ice-free pavement on Brownbill Bank to walk up and down the road without treading on ice, although I would ask everyone to take extra care when travelling to and from school, as some patches of ice may still remain.  If driving, please take extra care and drive slowly.  I was unable to check the church car park, so please take great care if using it.

Looking at the weather forecast, we are not expecting further snow or frozen temperatures tonight and the predicted rising temperatures tomorrow should ensure more melting continues to improve the situation.

The children will be entering through the front entrances tomorrow morning; it may be possible to collect from the classroom doors by the end of the day - please look out for texts with instructions for the end of the day.

We look forward to seeing you and your child in the morning!

    Kind regards,

  • School closure - Friday 10th January

Thu 09 Jan 2025 Mr. Simpson

    Good afternoon parents and carers,

Following an updated site inspection and risk assessment today, and with tonight's forecast for very cold temperatures and freezing fog, we have made the decision to close the school again tomorrow.  Areas worst affected are the fire escape routes and assembly points on the playground, staff car park and pavements / roads around the school.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

This morning, emails have been sent out to year group parents from the teachers about possible work ideas and activities that could be done at home to maintain learning and momentum at the start of the term.  This is not an expectation and is provided for parents/carers who would like to encourage their children to participate.

    Kind regards,

    Rob Simpson

  • School Closure - Thursday 9th January

Wed 08 Jan 2025 Mr. Simpson

    Dear Parents and Carers,

After much thought and discussion with senior leadership, governors, caretaker, staff, parents and other local head teachers, we have reluctantly decided to close the school tomorrow, Thursday 9th January.

There are a number of factors that have contributed to this decision:

    • Significantly colder forecast temperatures overnight, freezing fog and potential new snow on already frozen ground
    • Unsafe fire exits and assembly points around the side and back of the school
    • Unsafe staff car park and access due to ice
    • Parent feedback about the dangerous walkways in the community on the way to/from school
    • Unsafe journeys of staff into work on the roads, given feedback and difficulties today

We take our responsibility towards the children, as well as the parents and carers, very seriously and will go the extra mile to open if safe to do so.  However, given the points above, we believe that this decision is the only sensible way forward.

We will be in touch by email in the morning with ideas for activities for children to carry out at home, should parents wish to engage their children with learning.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Kind regards,

    Rob Simpson
