  • Free School Meal entitlement - ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

Mon 30 Mar 2020 Mr. Simpson

    Dear Parents / Carers,

Perhaps now more than ever, claiming Free School Meals for your child is important in accessing the support you and the family could be entitled to.

In England, every child in Reception to Year 1 is entitled to a 'Free School Lunch' (universal FSM).  This sometimes means that parents do not make the application for Free School Meals through the Local Authority until Year 3.

There are two types of Free School Meal:

    • Universal Free School Meals for every Rec-Y2 child
    • Income-based Free School Meals (for parents whose household income is below the threshold set).

If you have a child in Reception to Year 2 and are not sure whether you are entitled, please follow the link below and check through Liverpool City Council.

If you find that you are entitled (perhaps you didn't know), you will be able to collect a £10 voucher to spend at Asda stores for each child in your family.  The vouchers can be collected from Belle Vale Children's Centre.

    Click this link:

    https://liverpool.gov.uk/benefits/free-school-meals/

If you and your child are eligible, the school also benefits through additional funding to provide support for the children in school, called Pupil Premium.  It doesn't take long to check, so please click the link and have a look.  If you have any questions, please phone school between 9am-4pm.

    Kind regards,

    Mr. Simpson

  • Netherley 'Hub' - Week 2

Mon 30 Mar 2020 Mr. Simpson

Today, Monday 30th March, we are entering into Week 2 of our local hub, following the closure of schools to the vast majority of children across the country.

The opening times will be the same this week: 8am - 4pm.

Please remember that if at all possible, children should remain safely at home.  The hub is only open to children of critical key workers and a small number of vulnerable families.  'Key Workers' must complete a form with proof of employment, signature and contact details of a manager, and details of shift patterns.  The form is available from the school office.

  • Family support - Domestic Violence

Fri 27 Mar 2020 Mr. Simpson

At this time of school closure and social isolation, all families will become under greater strain as we try to adapt to a new way of living, largely confined to our own houses for very long periods of time.  This can cause stress, anxiety and a feeling that we are 'on the edge' as time goes by.  If your family is feeling this, please read on.  The following is a message to be shared with school communities from Liverpool City Council in regard to domestic violence support.  If you are having difficulties, please speak up, don't suffer in silence, and get help...

Many residents will be following the local and national advice around household isolation and social distancing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This advice is in place to limit the spread of the virus and keep as many people as safe and well as possible.

We know that there are vulnerable people in our communities who will be more concerned than others about the prospect of staying at home for a number of reasons, including those who have been the victims of domestic abuse such as violence or coercive and controlling behaviour.

While all public services are adapting to new ways of working during this pandemic, our message to anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse is clear: You are not alone and you don’t have to suffer in silence – we will still be here for you, no matter what.

Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police, Local Authorities and providers of domestic abuse support across Merseyside will continue working together to maintain essential services and contacts for anyone affected by domestic abuse during the weeks and months to come.

Support will still be available by telephone, text message or online services.

     Who to contact:

If you, your child or anyone in the family are at immediate risk of harm, you should contact the police urgently, CALL 999

If you are a Liverpool resident and are experiencing domestic abuse or believe someone you know is please contact support services via:

  • Netherley Hub - Update 23.3.20

Mon 23 Mar 2020 Mr. Simpson

    Good evening everyone,

Following the Prime Minister's latest statement, in which restrictions were increased, I can confirm that the Hub at Norman Pannell for children of critical key workers and vulnerable children remains OPEN unless you hear otherwise.  Liverpool Local Authority has confirmed earlier that the opening times will remain 9am - 4pm for the remainder of this week at least.

Please remember that this provision is only to be used if absolutely necessary.  If your children can be looked after safely at home, they should remain there for their own, and everybody else's health and safety.

We will require written evidence that workers are from the published government / local authority list, including details of working days and shifts.  The purpose of this government strategy is simply to keep children safe while key worker parents go out to work to keep the NHS and critical services going.  Please consider this carefully and phone school if you are unclear.  The more children who attend, the more staff are needed, and the more potential exposure to the dangerous spread of Covid-19.  If you can, please stay at home.

I would like to thank and pay tribute to the amazing staff teams from both Norman Pannell and St. Gregory's who attended this morning to support our community.  Staff are now on a rota and many have volunteered above and beyond what is expected of them in order to support our critical services and look after the children.  Incredible generosity and dedication.

  • Norman Pannell Childcare Hub Information

Sat 21 Mar 2020 Mrs McMaster

Norman Pannell Primary School is now a Childcare Hub for key workers as defined by Liverpool City Council on the link below:

    https://liverpool.gov.uk/childcarehubs

Please check the criteria carefully to ensure that you qualify as a key worker. If you have an adult at home even if you are a key worker your child must stay at home.

If you qualify for a place in a hub we are open on Monday 23 March from 9am to 4pm prompt.

If you are planning to bring your child/ren to us please understand and be prepared for the following:

    - when you arrive at school for the first time you will be required to complete a registration form which includes contact details, emergency contacts, medical info, allergies, dietary info, SEND needs etc. If your child currently attends Norman Pannell you will still be required to complete a form.  BE AWARE THIS COULD TAKE TIME ON MONDAY.

    - your child needs to come in their own clothes with suitable coats to go outside.

    - if your child needs to bring a mobile phone this will be locked away throughout the day and returned when they go home.

    - there is no need to provide your child with a packed lunch as all children who attend on Monday will get a free healthy hot meal (sample menus below). Following this parents may pay for a hot, but more information is to follow on this from the HubIf your child does struggle with lunchtime food choices and you would prefer to send in your own packed lunch then speak to a member of staff.

    - your child will be in a childcare environment, they will be playing games, doing craft activities, being outside etc. This is not an educational environment.

    - your child needs to follow and respond to the Hub's behaviour guidance; as it would be in the school they are currently enrolled in. The setting has the right to refuse entry to any child who does not follow the expectations of the Hub.

    - parents will be asked to wait in a designated collection area when dropping off and collecting from the Hub to ensure the health of the staff.

    - any child who is unwell will be sent home as quickly as possible.

WE HAVE A SET NUMBER OF CHILDREN WE CAN ACCEPT ON A DAILY BASIS. IF WE ARE FULL YOU WILL BE DIRECTED TO THE NEAREST LOCAL HUB SCHOOL.

We will be receiving an update from the Local Authority on a daily basis in response to local and national guidance. This will be updated on this page.

There are 50 HUBS across the City, you can use the one which is best for you.

  • Local Hub for Children at Norman Pannell

Fri 20 Mar 2020 Mr. Simpson

    Dear parents / carers,

The local authority have chosen Norman Pannell to be one of the designated 'hubs' in the city, providing childcare for the children identified by the government.  All eligible children from Norman Pannell - and those from any other schools in the local area - are free to join us from Monday morning.

Please click the link below for more details:

    https://liverpool.gov.uk/communities-and-safety/emergency-planning/coronavirus/hubs-for-children-of-key-workers/

Further details and clarification to follow.  I will be at a meeting at 4pm with other hub host schools and will update this webpage as soon as I can.  I will also be working closely with the leaders of St. Gregory's and perhaps other local schools to create the best possible solution.

Can I take this opportunity to warmly welcome any children from other schools to our local community Hub.  I want to reassure parents that our provision will be managed by leaders and staff from other schools working together, with familiar faces, teamwork, happiness and positivity.  If eligible, you and your child will be very welcome.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr. Rob Simpson

  • Coronavirus - Update 18.3.20

Wed 18 Mar 2020 Mr. Simpson

    Good evening,

Firstly, I'd like to thank all parents and children for their fantastic support and calm reaction to the unprecedented events of this week, while the Coronavirus crisis has escalated.  It has been a very difficult week, but I would particularly like to pay tribute to the incredible service to the children and local community shown by our amazing school staff, who have worked together to keep school open, positive and optimistic.

As you are no doubt already aware, the Prime Minister announced earlier that schools will be closed from Monday, to all children, except for a specific selection of children.  We are currently waiting clarification on exactly which pupils this applies to, but we would ask parents to consider whether the government's list applies to you and your child.

In the meantime, school remains OPEN tomorrow for all who are able to attend, following government advice on notices in school and on the website.  If your child is absent from school, it is so important that you contact us to let us know.  If you have already confirmed that your household is self-isolating, you do not need to inform us again, as this covers a 14-day period.

We will continue to follow advice and update you as soon as we can.

Thank you once again for your support and good will.

    Mr. Simpson
