  • Parents Evening and Children's Work Gallery events

Wed 02 Mar 2022 Mr. Simpson

    Dear parents and carers,

We are delighted to finally be able to welcome you back into school, albeit with some restrictions, to look at your child's work.  It has been far too long since we have been able to do this and we are taking the earliest opportunity to do so.  Based on your questionnaire responses, we understand that it has been difficult for you to see how hard your child has been working across the curriculum, and the progress that he/she has been making.

We cannot go back to the old style of parents evening, where children and adults are completely free to move and mix around school, so we are organising a series of opportunities for parents/carers to come into the halls and look at their child's achievements.  We will ensure that social distancing and hand hygiene measures are in place.  We also recommend wearing of face masks/covering, although this is voluntary.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be provided.

    Please see the timetable below:

    • 9:00 - 9:45am - Monday 7th March - Year 5 (Infant Hall) and Year 6 (Junior Hall)
    • 2:15 - 3:00pm - Monday 7th March - Year 1 (Infant Hall) and Year 3 (Junior Hall)
    • 9:00 - 9:45am - Tuesday 8th March - Year 4 (Infant Hall)
    • 9:00 - 9:45am - Wednesday 9th March - Reception (Reception Classroom) and Nursery (Nursery Classroom)
    • 2:15 - 3:00pm - Wednesday 9th March - Year 2 (Infant Hall)

The class teacher will be available in the hall for you to talk to or ask questions, should you wish to do so.

If you are unable to make the specific date and time for your child, but would like to come in to see their work, we can arrange this by request.

These opportunities to come in to see your child's work in the hall will then be followed by a Parents Evening on Zoom next Thursday 10th March after school, for those parents who would like a further private conversation with the teacher.  The Zoom link and online booking form will be available after the class event in the hall.

We hope that the combination of these two events give you a full opportunity to engage with your child's learning.  You are welcome to come to one or both, but we would particularly encourage you to come to see the work your child has been doing during the year.

    Kind regards,

    Rob Simpson

We very much hope that your child can come along and enjoy one or more of our clubs with his or her friends.

  • Extra-curricular clubs for Spring 1 2022

Mon 10 Jan 2022 Mr. Simpson

We are pleased to announce our range of extra-curricular clubs for the coming half term.  These clubs change every half term and are tailored towards specific age ranges so that children have a choice of activities at different times during the year.  The activities below begin on Tuesday 11th January, starting with Gymnastics for Y3/4 and Computing for Y5/6.

We are proud to offer all of our clubs free of charge to parents and carers; we invest in this because we are inclusive and believe that all children should have access to a range of exciting activities outside of classroom time.

For the first time, we have been asked by some parents of children in Reception whether after school clubs are possible and so we are arranging for Dance to be the first Early Years activity after half term in Feburary.

We encourage children to regularly participate in any of our clubs by rewarding them with Children's University credits, which accumulate over the course of the year, leading to a graduation event at the end of the year, should they gain enough credits and qualify.

  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) - information for parents

Mon 03 Jan 2022 Mr. Simpson

As part of our statutory curriculum, we will be teaching children in Y3-6 lessons about Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in the coming term.

We want parents to feel comfortable and informed about the curriculum that their children will be receiving, and to use it to promote healthy discussion between parents and their children as they grow up.

Please click on the link below to access a parent letter inviting parents to find out more at 4pm on Thursday 6th January.

  • Parent Governor Election Outcome

Wed 15 Dec 2021 Mr. Simpson

Thank you to all the parents who voted in the Parent Governor Election last week.  The votes were counted by Mr. Simpson and the Chair of Governors, Mr. Graham Maher, at lunchtime on Monday.

The successful candidate and new parent governor at Norman Pannell is Michelle Broley.

We would like to thank both candidates for offering their time and expertise to help the school in our efforts to continually improve and raise standards.

  • Christmas Activities and Arrangements update

Tue 14 Dec 2021 Mr. Simpson

    Christmas Activities and Parent participation

Santa Dash - Thursday 16th December

We are looking forward to the Santa Dash on 16th December, supported by the PTA.  Children will be able to run or walk with their friends and the rest of the school playground, collecting treats along the way.

Children are invited to wear 'anything Christmassy' with their uniform on Thursday 16th for our Santa Dash.  This could be a full Santa suit but could be something as simple as some tinsel or a Christmas jumper.  Please do not worry if you have not got something Christmassy to give your child to wear; all children will still enjoy some fresh air and festive fun, with the PTA providing treats for the children.

Unfortunately, due to the guidance received on large gatherings, the need for social distancing measures etc. we will not be able to invite parents and carers this year. However, we will be taking photos and videos, which will be shared on the website and Twitter so that parents can enjoy watching with their children at home.

    Class Christmas Singing Performances

Pairs of classes will be singing to the parents and carers in special Christmas mini-performances (see times below).

Following public health guidance, the events are strictly outside only and will take place on the stage area in the infant playground.   We kindly ask that all parents and carers watching wear face coverings and space out so that social distancing can be maintained and everyone can see and enjoy the performance.  Please stand behind the benches.

    • Thursday 16th 3pm - Years 5&6
    • Friday 17th 3pm - Years 1&2
    • Monday 20th 3pm - Years 3&4
    • Tuesday 21st 9:15am - Early Years (Nurs & Reception)

Children are once again invited to wear something Christmassy e.g. hat, tinsel, jumper etc. along with their normal school uniform.

  • Home Testing during the Easter Holidays

Wed 24 Mar 2021 Mr. Simpson

    Dear parents and carers,

Whilst data shows that the number of Covid-19 cases is dramatically reduced compared to just a few weeks ago, we are reminded of the need to be vigilant and continue to follow guidelines by the fact that at least two of our local schools have had bubble closures and further disruption this last week.

Our staff continue to voluntarily take 2 Covid-19 Lateral Flow tests per week to ensure we avoid accidentally bringing the virus into school.  Equally, many parents have arranged for household home testing, and others have correctly booked PCR tests at a testing centre where symptoms exist.  Thank you for this commitment to everybody's safety and the smooth running of our school.

Please click on the link below for more information about ordering or collecting home testing kits for families with school children.

Click here for home testing kit ordering

It would be advisable and greatly appreciated for families to follow the instructions and carry out these tests before coming back into school at the end of the holiday.

    Kind regards,

    Rob Simpson
