Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A booklet has been put together by Liverpool Mental Health Support Teams, and city partners as part of Liverpool’s Whole School Approach to Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing. Over the next few weeks we will all experience extra pressures that will affect how we think and feel. It’s important to recognise that all of us have mental health and, just like our physical health, at this time it’s important to look after it. Inside the booklet are a few tips, activities and useful information to help you to keep yourself and your family emotionally healthy at home. Please click below
Good evening,
Firstly, I'd like to thank all parents and children for their fantastic support and calm reaction to the unprecedented events of this week, while the Coronavirus crisis has escalated. It has been a very difficult week, but I would particularly like to pay tribute to the incredible service to the children and local community shown by our amazing school staff, who have worked together to keep school open, positive and optimistic.
As you are no doubt already aware, the Prime Minister announced earlier that schools will be closed from Monday, to all children, except for a specific selection of children. We are currently waiting clarification on exactly which pupils this applies to, but we would ask parents to consider whether the government's list applies to you and your child.
In the meantime, school remains OPEN tomorrow for all who are able to attend, following government advice on notices in school and on the website. If your child is absent from school, it is so important that you contact us to let us know. If you have already confirmed that your household is self-isolating, you do not need to inform us again, as this covers a 14-day period.
We will continue to follow advice and update you as soon as we can.
Thank you once again for your support and good will.
Mr. Simpson
Guidance on staying at home:
Guidance on social distancing:
Good morning everyone,
Following government instruction, school remains OPEN today.
Please follow guidelines strictly regarding keeping children off school and contact the school if you are keeping your child off. Some parents have asked me about concerns with attendance - your child's, family's and public health is more important than your child's attendance and children who are off linked to Coronavirus will NOT be fined for pupil unauthorised absence. Please ensure you phone school to keep us updated.
As with other schools, we have members of staff off following precautionary advice, however, we have plans in place and are ready for the day ahead.
Children working at home:
Teachers will be uploading work to the class pages, with links to various games and resources. As there are already a large number of children off, we will be mainly providing home learning activities through the website. We will also be making paper activity packs available. The website and other activities can be accessed through PCs, laptops, tablets, phones, Xbox and PS4. Paper packs can only last so long, so in the event of a long period of closure, online learning will take the priority.

Message from Steve Reddy, Director of Children and Young People's Services
Dear children, young people, parents/carers and families,
Following my letter yesterday the government has now announced a number of additional measures.
It is important that we all continue to follow the guidance set out by the Government and DfE and make the necessary changes.
Whilst schools remain open some planned activities will inevitably be cancelled.
Schools may well restrict all but essential visitors on to the site.
We will be speaking to Public Health England to consider the implications for children and staff with significant health needs.
Anyone who has high temperature/fever and/or new persistant cough will be required to self-isolate at home for 14 days along with anyone in their household.
We are very grateful for the continued support of all school staff, children, young people and families as we manage these difficult times.
It is important that we continue to work together and support one another.
Best wishes,
Steve Reddy
Director of Children and Young People’s Services.
Following government and Liverpool Local Authority advice, Norman Pannell remains OPEN as usual.
We will be following any developments and will give advice to parents only from official sources: NHS, Gov.UK, Liverpool Local Authority.
The government has provided additional guidance about when to self-isolate and stay at home:
When deciding whether your child should stay at home, please follow this advice, which includes the statement:
""If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill."
The listed symptoms are:
1) new continuous cough and/or
2) high temperature
Children from different classes across the school met with two of our governors, Charlie and Martin, this afternoon. They were keen to show off their work from across the curriculum, from Art to History to Geography and PSHE. Our Head and Deputy Head Girls explained their understanding of our school intent statement: 'Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, Healthy Futures'.
The governors also took on our Boccia team in the hall (and lost!) before listening to Y5 and Y6 singing songs from their upcoming performance of Scrooge. What a great afternoon!
Thank you to Charlie and Martin for giving their time, and congratulations to all the children for their wonderful presentations!
Hi everyone, it's the end of a fantastic first day at Barnstondale and while we attempt to get the last of the children off to sleep (currently 00:55...) we'll post some photos of the fun we've had so far.
Everything is going really well: the children loved the wellie walk up the river and enjoyed lots of free time in the sunshine on the field, adventure playground, games court and sensory garden. Add to that a lovely meal (chicken curry or sausage and mash!), tuck shop and a campfire and that all adds up to a brilliant start to the trip!
We will update during the day on Twitter and will try to post more photos here tomorrow night. Kayaking at West Kirby Marina tomorrow - can't wait!
We are delighted that the school's attendance performance for the second half of the Spring Term was a significant improvement on Spring 1, lifting the overall school attendance for the year so far:
Aut 1: 93.1%
Aut 2: 94.4%
Spr 1: 93.7%
Spr 2: 95.4%
Average attendance for the year so far: 94.2%
Whilst Spring 2's attendance is a big improvement, we need to back this up and further improve in the Summer Term to raise our final attendance figure towards 95% by the end of the school year.
We are grateful to the parents, school staff and School Improvement Liverpool's Primary Attendance Network for the big collective effort made this term. Let's work together again to take Norman Pannell's attendance to new levels of attendance performance in the Summer Term.
