School Closure - Thursday 9th January

Dear Parents and Carers,

After much thought and discussion with senior leadership, governors, caretaker, staff, parents and other local head teachers, we have reluctantly decided to close the school tomorrow, Thursday 9th January.

There are a number of factors that have contributed to this decision:

  • Significantly colder forecast temperatures overnight, freezing fog and potential new snow on already frozen ground
  • Unsafe fire exits and assembly points around the side and back of the school
  • Unsafe staff car park and access due to ice
  • Parent feedback about the dangerous walkways in the community on the way to/from school
  • Unsafe journeys of staff into work on the roads, given feedback and difficulties today

We take our responsibility towards the children, as well as the parents and carers, very seriously and will go the extra mile to open if safe to do so.  However, given the points above, we believe that this decision is the only sensible way forward.

We will be in touch by email in the morning with ideas for activities for children to carry out at home, should parents wish to engage their children with learning.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind regards,

Rob Simpson

Headteacher
