  • FREE Half Term Holiday activities and meals for children entitled to Free School Meals

Thu 12 Oct 2023 Mr. Simpson

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Please find below a letter from Sally Dobbing, Project Manager for Liverpool's Holiday Activity Fund project (HAF), which provides half term holiday activities and meals for children eligible for free school meals.

For the first time, we are hosting one such project during this Autumn half term, run by LSC.  We hope that some of our children can benefit from this offer at NP or beyond at one of the many other projects.

Kind regards. (letter and information below)

    Date:  11th October 2023

    Dear Parent or Guardian

The October Half Term Eat 2 Meet programme starts on the 30th October and there are lots of great activities happening over the school holidays.  Children and young people, from reception to age 16 (including year 11 leavers), who are eligible for benefits related free school meals, will be able to access hundreds of activities throughout the half term holidays including specific provision available for children with SEND or additional needs, at no cost. There’s a great range of activities across the city including Halloween themed activities such as pumpkin carving, apple bob, halloween crafts making spooky masksboxing, football, music, dance, cycling, cooking, podcasting, basketball, arts and crafts, drama, zumba, trips out and much more!  Every day there will be a range of fabulous meals available with many schemes holding family events as well.

To find out where the nearest scheme is click on this link October Half Term ‘Eat to Meet’ – Merseyside Play Action Council (merseyplay.com) or go to https://www.merseyplay.com and click on the October Half Term Eat 2 Meet link.

When a parent/guardian/carer has chosen the activity/scheme they will need to contact that organisation to book a place.  Each organisation will have either a telephone number, email address or online booking system.  If the child has any additional needs or dietary requirements then please discuss this with the organisation when booking.  There is no central booking system so please read the details of the programmes on the website and contact the providers directly.

Liverpool City Council is working with Mersey Play Action Council, the local schools, voluntary and community organisations, and childcare providers to deliver the October Half Term Eat 2 Meet programme.

The Family Information and SEND Directory also provides a wealth of useful information and support for families - FISD.

    Regards

    Sally Dobbing

  • #HelloYellow on 10th October 2023 for World Mental Health Day.

Mon 09 Oct 2023 Mrs McMaster

Norman Pannell School is taking part in #HelloYellow on 10th October 2023 for World Mental Health Day.

We can all struggle with how we’re feeling, but sometimes things get tough and it can be difficult to cope. For so many young people, when this happens, they don’t get the help they need, when they need it. But together, we can change this.
That’s why we have signed up to take part in #HelloYellow. By taking part and wearing yellow, we’re showing young people that we’re with them. We’re showing them that they matter and deserve the support they need, when they need it, no matter what.
We’ll be joining thousands of other schools by wearing yellow to stand out and show up for young people’s mental health, and raise vital funds for YoungMinds.
To take part, children can wear yellow to school on 10th October, and we ask parents and carers to make a £1 donation to YoungMinds.
Here is our JustGiving page where you can make a donation:

  • Start of the New School Year

Wed 30 Aug 2023 Mr. Simpson

Welcome back to the new school year at Norman Pannell!

We hope all of our children, families and staff have had a healthy holiday with some fun memories to look back on.

The school term starts for ALL children (except Nursery) on Monday 4th September.

Nursery children start from Thursday 7th September.

As parents know from newsletters in the Summer Term, Phase 3 of our whole-school refurbishment has been in full swing during the holidays, with work on schedule and looking great!  This work is due for completion by the end of September, but means that Reception and Year 1 classes are in temporary classrooms for the first 3-4 weeks of term.

Important information about drop-off and pick-ups:

    • Reception children should be dropped off and picked up at the Community Room.  This is Reception's temporary classroom and it will have a temporary metal fence and gate surrounding the immediate outside area to increase safety for children.  Miss Shaw and Miss Jade greet children and dismiss from here.
    • Reception children are half day only for the first 3 days (Mon 4th - Wed 6th) either AM or PM. Please refer to the information given out before the Summer break or contact the school office if you're not sure.
    • Year 1 to Year 6 children should be brought to the Infant Yard before the whistle goes at 8:50am.  Children will then leave parents / carers and come up the steps onto the junior yard where teachers will be waiting to greet them and to line up.  The staff will then take children into class.
    • Children will be picked up at 3:20pm from their classroom doors (3:15pm for Nursery / Reception). Staff will be on hand to help if you are not sure where to go.
    • Y1's temporary classroom is the library, which is half way along the back side of the school building.  Please look out for signage or ask if you are unsure.

    Breakfast and Twilight Club

For the Autumn and Spring Terms, were are welcoming the staff and children from Netherley Youth and Community Initiative (NYCI) to join forces and combine our services while their premises are refurbished.

Drop-off and pick-up for both these clubs will be at the door on the Infant Yard nearest the playground train.  Parents must be in attendance to sign children in and pick-up.

Reminder: All payments for breakfast and twilight club must be made via the Parent Pay app - please book in advance.

  • Housing development update 18/5/23

Thu 18 May 2023 Mr. Simpson

    Dear parents and carers,

As you know, a large-scale housing development is due to start on the green area opposite school, stretching to beyond Netherley shops.  We know that this will cause many families disruption for the period of building work, which will be up to 2 years, as it will affect pedestrian routes and eventually parking.

Today, workers have started to erect a fence next to the cars parked opposite the school.  I have spoken to the workers, who have said that this will NOT restrict access to the pathways for at least a week, maybe two.  Cars are still able to access the parking areas in the usual way at this time.  Please take extra care.

    Kind regards,

    Rob Simpson
