  • Wedding of the Century in Reception

Fri 12 Feb 2016 Mr. Simpson

Reception class ended the half term in style by participating in a beautiful Friendship Wedding held in the main hall this morning.

The blushing bride, Summer, and handsome groom, Callum, were joined in lasting friendship, supported by flower girls, best man, ushers, father of the bride, choir and photographer.  It was a truly magical occasion that will live long in the memories of all that were there.

Congratulations to Miss Gold and all of the Early Years team for their creativity, passion and dedication to make such a fabulous event happen.  Many thanks also to Cheryl Lee (cake-maker), Chris Brown (vicar) and all the parents who helped make it an unforgettable day.  Have a lovely half term EYFS!

Here are just a few pictures as a quick taste of the magic, we will put more photos and videos up after half term...

  • Ski Trip 2016

Sat 06 Feb 2016 Miss Lewis, Mr. Simpson and Mr. Barbour

On Saturday morning, five excited young men from Norman Pannell set off on this year's ski trip to the Alp: Brian, Joseph and Louis from Y5, Ben from Y4 and Mr. Barbour.  They were joined by one of our governors, Charlie Coyne, and a number of children and staff from other schools.

We will use this page to give updates as their wonderful week in the snow unfolds, including news and pictures, as we get them...

    Saturday 6th February:

The boys were waved off by parents and Miss Lewis from Edge Lane Retail Park at 7:30am this morning. After a couple of hours, our first update - everyone safely checked in, through customs and waiting with great anticipation on the runway ready to fly off to the snowy slopes.  I think Mr. Barbour might just be the most excited of all...

    Sunday 7th February

Good morning everyone!  While we begin a lazy Sunday morning in Liverpool, the boys are finishing their breakfast and getting ready to hit the slopes.  The flight yesterday went smoothly and, despite some heavy traffic and a slightly delayed arrival at the hotel, the boys are in good spirits and keen to get started.

    Afternoon / Evening Update:

"Snowed all day today... none stop, was beautiful!" says Mr. Barbour.  The group have spent their first full day on the slopes in fresh powdery snow.  As the newcomer, Ben has been complimented by the group leader for his rapid progress.  Everyone is having a fantastic time and representing the school brilliantly!

Tonight is Quiz Night in the hotel and Mr. Barbour is the Bingo caller!  Is there anything he can't do?

    Monday 8th February

Check out the picture from the slopes!!!  We'll try to update later...

Mr. Barbour says: "Just returned to the hotel - another excellent day!"

It looks like they're having a rather good time!

    Tuesday 9th February

Mr. Barbour kindly updated me at 6:17am this morning (thanks for that!)  He tells me Louis was his star skier yesterday for helping everyone and persevering when he fell over.  "The boys have been amazing!" Mr. Barbour was pleased to tell us.

Lunchtime: "Another great morning!" comes the enthusiastic report. "It snowed like this all morning..." (see winter wonderland forest picture)

    Wednesday 10th February

"Today was so cold my beard froze!" explained Mr. Barbour.  "Ben has been telling all about his first time on a blue run - 'it was amazing and fast!' Ben said.  After that the boys visited the souvenir shop."

    Another brilliant day all round!

    Thursday 11th February

A special treat tonight from the summit of a magnificent mountain scene - watch a short video message from the boys saying hello to us all - click on 'Gallery' and follow the link!

Top marks to Louis for his witty greeting: "Ski you later!" (I think he's quite proud of that one!)

The boys are so happy and relaxed, and the scenery is breathtaking!

    Friday 12th February

The last full day of action on the slopes ended with the famous awards evening.  Our four boys took the prestigious 'Best Table Award', and then followed that up with individual awards: Louis - Best Diary; Brian - Best Pupil; Joseph - Best Technical Skier; and Ben - Most Improved Skier.

We are very proud of the boys, and look forward to welcoming them home and hearing about all their adventures!

    Saturday 13th February

The boys are on their way home!

PM - After a delayed flight, the ski trip arrived safely at about 8:30pm in Childwall.  What an amazing adventure for each of the four boys, who represented the school extremely well in terms of both their skiing ability and behaviour.

I am sure everybody involved would like to join me in thanking Mr. Barbour for taking the children out to the Alps for a whole week, giving up his time away from family and friends to enable the boys to have such an unforgettable experience.

Many thanks also to Miss Lewis who, despite not going on the trip herself, put a massive amount of time into the organisation of the ski trip, without which it would not have happened.

Finally thanks to our school governor, Charlie Coyne, and the Liverpool Schools Ski Association for inviting and helping our school to be involved.

Have a great half term everyone!

    Mr. Simpson

  • Y3/4 Colomendy - Day 3 (Friday)

Fri 05 Feb 2016 Mr. Simpson

Good morning once again!  The children are up, packed, fed and ready to return.  We've had another big cooked breakfast after a long sleep and the children are squeezing in two last activities before an early lunch and departure back to Norman Pannell.  Some of the children needed a bit of help getting their cases shut this morning, with some interesting bag packing going on, but we got there in the end.

We've had a brilliant time but look forward to getting back to our families and our own cosy beds (staff included!)

    See you soon!

  • Y3/4 Colomendy - Day 2 (Thursday)

Thu 04 Feb 2016 Mr. Simpson

Good morning parents and families back in Liverpool!

Just a quick update for you before breakfast to let you know that we have all had a great sleep (surprisingly!) - all the children were asleep by midnight - many earlier than that.  With no dramas during the night, all dormitories were still silent when we woke them up at 7:30 this morning.  For the first night of a residential trip, that is pretty good!

The children are having a great time and we are looking forward to a big breakfast and a packed day of exciting activities.  I'll update with photos later - have a great day!

10pm - PHOTOS IN 5 MINUTES - just uploading! - we've only just got back from the forest camp fire and the children are being settled down for sleep by Miss Harrison, Miss Standaloft and Mrs. Miranda.

We've had another great day with the children taking part in a wide range of activities from 'Giant Zip Wire', to Caving, to 'Jungle Vines' and many more.  Three huge meals were once again enjoyed by children and staff, with tonight's dinner of beef / veggie curry or chicken pasta, rice and wedges proving very popular!  This was followed by hot chocolate, jokes and songs around a roaring fire.  The children are worn out after all that, and looking forward to seeing their families after a good sleep.  See you all tomorrow!

  • Y3/4 Colomendy - Day 1

Wed 03 Feb 2016 Mr. Simpson

    Greetings from Colomendy!

I've just sneaked away from 'Cinema Night' where the children are enjoying a well-earned chill out after a busy day.

The bus arrived safely at about 2:45pm and quickly made themselves at home in their dormitories.  Teachers had great amusement watching the children attempt to put duvets and pillows in their covers before giving a helping hand!

After some enjoyable free time on the field, we then headed into the forest for the first activity - Nightline!  All three groups were fantastic with everybody joining in (see photos below).

We then got cleaned up (it was quite muddy) and went down to the dining room for dinner, where the children enjoyed a wonderful roast dinner followed by doughnut and custard for pudding.  It was great to see so many children took advantage of the healthy options, dipping into the salad bar and choosing a piece of fresh fruit.

When the film is finished, the children will be heading back to dormitories and the teachers will have the tricky task of getting 25 excited children to sleep.  Everybody is having a great time and the group leaders have already commented on how well behaved they have been.  I hope you're coping without your child - enjoy the freedom!
