The Pendle Witches

In 1612 a famous trial took place.  The children have acted out that trial today.  They gave evidence to the court to see whether or not they were guilty of witchcraft.

Family Fun afternoon

Year 5 and 6 had an afternoon with their parents taking part in fun activities.

Enterprise Day

Today we had visitors in school helping our pupils develop a range of skills for working and life.  They completed a series of tasks in groups of 6.  The children worked extremely well together, mixing with children from different classes.  Ask the children about the different tasks they completed, i'm sure they will enjoy telling you all about it.

Messy Morning Y5

Family members came in to help the Year 5 children build settlements.  The finishing products were fantastic! Thank you to everyone.

Year 5 adventured out into the community today. We used maps to find places in the area as part of our Geography fieldwork.

We had another visit from the book bus this week.

During after school book club we made Harry Potter themed wands.

We had students in from Hope University teaching us how to make Samba music using lots of different instruments.

The children went to Gateacre school's science department and took part in some experiments with Mr Creed.  They used lots of equipment and investigated how to create certain gases and how them gases reacted to fire!

Today the school was visited by a local owl sanctuary.  The children were shown 5 different species of owls and told many facts about each bird.  The fun will now continue into the classroom were we will be carrying on researching these fantastic birds.

We painted what we thought the settlements of the North Pole were like.

Year 5 and 6 Maths breakfast morning

Thank you to everyone who attended our Maths morning on Friday, the children had a great time.

Year 5 book club

We are currently reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.  Last night with some very unusual ingredients, Sean's wand and a touch of Hogwarts magic we made some very interesting potions.

Gateacre School STEM project

On Friday afternoon we attended a workshop at Gateacre School.  With the help of Gateacre students, Norman Pannell pupils had to make a parachute using a variety of different materials to protect an egg when being thrown from 3 different heights.

There was only one parachute which survived 3 drops (from 3 different floors in Gateacre School).  The Reindeer team won!  Well done!

Christmas stories with Jude Lennon!

Mannequin Challenge

Year 5 wanted to complete the Mannequin challenge during a PE lesson, since they've worked so hard this week we decided to give it go.

Teddy bear hospital

We spent the afternoon learning about basic life support and what to do in an emergency using teddies.  The children really enjoyed the session.

During PE we travelled around the hall in different ways using our gymnastic skills.

The book people bus visited the school today and we spent some time looking and reading the books.
Year 5 have recently experimented how best to make a rocket move.  We made rockets out of paper and attached a balloon to see how far the rocket travelled along the string.  We will then investigate which rocket flew the furthest and why we think this was.
Today we took part in a Run for Fun at Wavertree Sports Centre.  We had a great afternoon running alongside other schools in a 1 mile run.
On Thursday we had our first school trip of the year to Delamere Forest.  We had a fantastic day spending time with the rangers and exploring the forest.  The first part of the day was spent learning how to survive in the wild with Ranger Ben talking about the key things we need to keep us alive and den building.  We collected items from the forest and also got to meet the famous Gruffalo! The fun is continuing into the classroom were we will be completing fieldwork journals all about our trip.
