In our Nursery class Miss McCallion is the Teacher and Miss Rita, Miss Sarah & Miss Casey are the Learning Support Assistants.
In Nursery we love to learn both indoors and outdoors! We have lots of opportunities to learn through active play, investigation, stories and much more! The children have settled in very quickly over the last few weeks.
Each half term we plan based on a different topic. The topics are child led and planning reflects the interests of the children. We use themes to inspire the children. Below is an outline of what your child will be learning in Nursery over the year. Each half term, a shorter medium term plan will be added so you know what your child will be learning over a half term period!

What we will learn about this year..
Below is the long-term planning for the year in Nursery, outlining topics that will be covered this year- this may change due to the children's interests throughout the year. Each half-term there will be a more detailed medium term plan uploaded.
This half term we are focusing on celebrations and festivals. This week has been very busy! We started off the week learning about Bonfire Night before moving on to Diwali and finishing off with Remembrance Sunday! We have made firework pictures, watched a sparkler demonstration, made Diva Lamps using clay and created poppies using our interactive board!
We have had a fantastic Halloween party morning! The children's outfits were brilliant and they enjoyed eating party food, listening to spooky Halloween music, dancing and playing party games! Well done to our best fancy dress winners!
Stay and Play 'Parent's Evening'
Thank you to all of the parents who attended our stay and play. The children love showing you what they do in Nursery and it was great for the staff to be able to talk to you about your wonderful children and how well they've settled.
We have been reading the story 'Peace at Last' this week so decided to made chocolate bear toast this morning. We used slices of banana for the ears and nose, and raisins for the bears eyes. The children loved their toast and of course ended up with chocolate covered faces!
For the past few weeks we have been learning about our senses. We know that we have 5 senses and which body parts we use. We have tasted fruits, made different scented play dough, listened to musical instruments and lots more.
Our older children are getting really good at using the bikes. Their balance and coordination is improving each week!
Today we talked all about keeping our bodies nice and healthy! We discussed healthy and unhealthy foods and what different exercises that we can do to build a strong and health body! We then went outside and ran/walked a mile around our playground!
This week we have been learning about our body parts. We all had a label and had to put it next to the correct body part of our friends!
Our second week
We have all settled in to Nursery very well in our second week! We are making new friends and enjoying our All about me topic!
Some of our oldest children will have a session every Thursday morning on the balance bikes to help develop their core and assist with coordination skills.
Our First Day in Nursery!
We had a fantastic first day in Nursery getting to know all our new friends. We got to know where everything is in our new classroom by exploring all of the different areas. We made cakes at the Dough table, cooked some dinner in the home corner, drew pictures in the mark making area and lots more!
Our first dance lesson!
Every Tuesday morning we will have a dance session from 9am until 9:30am. This morning we created movements for different underwater animals! We moved around the hall like an octopus, a shark, a dolphin and even a stingray!
