P4C - Philosophy for Children

This year at Norman Pannell, we have introduced P4C (Philosophy for Children) to our curriculum.

In P4C the teacher facilitates a student-led discussion on a philosophical question. P4C builds higher order thinking, questioning, speaking and listening skills.  It helps children to think deeply about big issues and informs their opinions on a wide range of topics.

P4C fits in with many aspects of the curriculum, from Speaking and Listening Literacy skills, to PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education) and SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural awareness).  All teachers and teaching assistants have undertaken Level 1 training over the course of 2 INSET days in order to become P4C accredited facilitators.  We are very proud to have invested in this initiative and can already see positive results.
