Dear parents and carers,

Good evening! I hope that you, your child and your family are well and coping in a positive way with this unique situation of school closure during the Covid outbreak.

Thank you for the lovely, supportive messages via Twitter and email that we have received from parents. We love to see the Twitter posts of children keeping healthy and happy at home as well as continuing with some excellent learning.

I can assure you that the whole staff team are looking forward to life returning to somewhere near normal as soon as possible, so that we can see the children’s smiling faces and resume our job of teaching and providing for your child.  When school very abruptly closed in March, we gave out some work packs to each child to help them continue their learning at home. However, with such a long period of closure, it is impossible to provide enough meaningful work and as a result, we have worked hard on the school website, providing endless links and ideas for fun, interactive home learning. I hope you have been able to access some of it. There have also been lots of ideas posted on our Twitter page.

I have been contacted by a few parents who have told me that they cannot access the online learning due to technical issues. Our job, of course, is to provide children with the best ways of learning during this period. Whilst it is possible to print worksheets and activities that allow the children to practise some basic skills, it is very difficult for them to learn new ideas and be creative through use of work packs. For this reason, the excellent online lessons, videos, links and activities are much more valuable and effective if it is possible for the children to engage with this at home.

We strongly recommend online learning during the school closure if at all possible. However, if your child is unable to gain Internet access or enjoy some of the interactive content that we have provided, we will provide a new work pack at the parent’s request.

If you would like a pack for your child, please complete the request form below and submit. Please ensure you include your child’s full name and class teacher. Your child’s pack will then be put together, ready for your collection from the school office two days later. Unfortunately, due to cost and time restraints, we are unable to send packs out by post.

If it is possible for your child to continue learning at home, that is great!  We do appreciate that different families have very different circumstances and challenges at this time, and will not have an expectation of how much work each child has completed. In addition, work completed at home will not be marked or formally collected in when the school re-opens.

Let’s hope that this difficult period of time ends soon and that our Norman Pannell family are able to come together again soon!

Yours sincerely,

Rob Simpson
